Los Angeles-based designer Alvin Lustig (1915-1955) worked with New Directions Press in the 1940s, creating their revered book jackets (see link below). His office also designed furniture, textiles and architecture, pioneering a particular modern aesthetic now considered classic midcentury.
The first monograph on Lustig, by Steven Heller and Elaine Lustig Cohen, has just been published by Chronicle books.
