Charles Moore’s “The City Observed, Los Angeles,” First Edition Book Cover (1984)
Charles Williard Moore (1925 – 1993), a prominent American postmodern architect, educator, and writer, created “The City Observed, Los Angeles,” a literary guide to architecture in Los Angeles. He covered significant and varied architecture such as Disneyland, Riverside’s Mission Inn, the Gamble House, and downtown Los Angeles. Moore was able to look past the seemingly contrasting environments of Los Angeles and see them as a coherent whole.
