Defend Boyle Heights puts out a call to boycott art galleries in the neighborhood
Defend Boyle Heights, an organization with the mission to de-gentrify Boyle Heights put out a statement in 2016 calling out the people and institutions involved in the gentrification of the neighborhood. The statement stated that the meetings happening in galleries such as Self Help Graphics to discuss gentrification were presenting dialogue that removed culpability and accountability from the artist and galleries themselves. DBH thus called for a complete boycott of all new galleries in the “arts district” with a list of other conditions.
