Jerome and Evelyn Ackerman in their Culver City studio, 1954
From the Los Angeles Times: “In this 1954 photo, Jerome and Evelyn Ackerman unload the kiln at their Jenev studio in Culver City. At the time, the pieces sold for between $4 and $20. The decanters with stoppers, on the shelf to the right of Evelyn, now fetch up to $800 on eBay. “They embodied the can-do spirit of California, functioning simultaneously as craftspeople, commercial designers and producers,” says design historian Bill Stern. “Their modern work brought affordable midcentury design into homes across the country.”
