John Dorr’s Dorothy and Alan Trailer

In 1979 EZTV’s founder John Dorr utilized an analogue B&W bank surveillance camera to shoot the first known narrative garage-video feature. In 1982 he, and a core group of artist-members, opened Los Angeles’s first video production and exhibition space, EZTV Video Gallery, with a screening of his feature about Dorothy Parker and her bi-sexual husband, Alan Campbell. The feature and the gallery gained serious critical attention and began international recognition for the upstart West Hollywood gallery that offered an unheard-of alternative to the institutional production and exhibition models of the time.
