MOCA Mobilization Website
This website was launched by members of the Los Angeles art community in 2008, when the details of MOCA’s financial situation were first emerging and a number of solutions were being debated publicly. It includes an archive of press related to the events of 2008, in which the proposed merger with LACMA and the bailout offered by billionaire philanthropist Eli Broad are discussed. It also includes statements and recommendations issued by the MOCA Mobilization group in response, and documentation of a public rally held in late 2008. The group was inactive for a period but has resurfaced in response to recent events at MOCA, including the firing of chief curator Paul Schimmel and the departure of artists John Baldessari, Barbara Kruger, Catherine Opie, and Ed Ruscha from MOCA’s Board of Trustees.
