Nancy Holt & Robert Smithson, East Coast West Coast, 1969

In Nancy Holt and Robert Smithson’s first collaboration, the artists perform the bi-coastal art milieu–Holt plays the character of an intellectual, conceptual, New York artist, while Smithson represents a sensitive-natured California artist. Their workaday dialogue becomes heated at times, particulary when Smithson demands that Holt needs to “feel” more than “think” to make great work.
