Filmmaker Patricia Restrepo was born in Cali, Colombia in 1954. During the beginning of her career in the 1970s, she made short films that revolving around women and their social status. In her Por la Mañana (In the morning), based on a poem by Jacques Prévert, a wife is devastated about the repeated occurences at breakfast: day after day, her husband never acknowledges her as he reads the paper, smokes a cigarette, and drinks a cup of coffee.
