Sprayed with Tears (2016)
This essay discusses die Kränken’s video Sprayed with Tears (2016), its source material, the play “The Rose of No Man’s Land,” and the importance of gay motorcycle clubs in the development of leather communities in the United States. “The Rose of No Man’s Land” is a variety show that was performed by Los Angeles-based gay motorcycle club, Blue Max. Rather than blindly recreating “The Rose of No Man’s Land,” die Kränken modifies and critiques its source material through sexual politics, queer radicality, and the rejection of homosexual assimilation into heteronormative society.
