Art+Feminism is a global do-it-yourself campaign to combat gender bias and improve the coverage of women, intersectional feminism, and the arts on Wikipedia, the world’s fifth most popular website.
As part of Art+Feminism’s annual worldwide Wikipedia edit-a-thon, we’re pleased to announce a monthlong series of Wikipedia workshops and edit-a-thons presented at Southern California museums and art institutions every weekend this March.
Bring your laptop or tablet computer and learn to create and improve Wikipedia articles at one of the following events:
- Sunday, March 3: The Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles hosts an edit-a-thon focused on Women+Comedy. Wikipedia training sessions for beginners will take place at Noon at 3pm, and a mid-afternoon comedy break with the stand-up comedy series JOSH will feature performances by Michelle Tea, Tara Jepsen, Kirsten Kuppenbender, and Atsuko Okatsuka. 1717 E. 7th Street (Downtown), Noon–5pm.
- Saturday, March 9: Vincent Price Art Museum at East Los Angeles College hosts an edit-a-thon focused on Latinx Women+Non-Binary Artists. A Wikipedia training session for beginners will take place at Noon. 1301 Avenida Cesar Chavez (Monterey Park), Noon–4pm.
- Sunday, March 10: Hammer Museum hosts an edit-a-thon focused on Women+Film+Media. Wikipedia training sessions for beginners will take place at Noon and 3pm, and a free photo booth invites women artists and filmmakers to stop by and have their portraits taken for Wikimedia Commons. 10899 Wilshire Boulevard (Westwood), Noon–5pm.
- Sunday, March 17: LACMA hosts an edit-a-thon focused on Women+Design+Craft. Wikipedia training sessions for beginners will be held at Noon and 3pm. At 2pm, LACMA Associate Curator Staci Steinberger will lead a free tour of West of Modernism: California Graphic Design, 1975–1995, focusing on key women represented in the exhibition. 5905 Wilshire Boulevard (Miracle Mile), Noon–5pm.Note: LACMA offers free supervised activities for children (ages 3-1/2–12) through the Andell Family Sundays program. To participate in these activities, follow the directions on the RSVP form.
- Sunday, March 31: California African American Museum edit-a-thon focused on women artists in CAAM’s permanent collection and those who have exhibited at the museum over the years. A Wikipedia training session for beginners will be held at 1pm. 600 State Drive (Exposition Park), 1–4pm.
These events are co-sponsored by the online art magazine East of Borneo, which marks its sixth year as Art+Feminism’s Los Angeles–based presenting partner, and feature one-hour Wikipedia training sessions for beginners led by Art+Feminism ambassador Stacey Allan.
Beginners are welcome, and people of all gender expressions and identities are encouraged to attend.

Why Wikipedia?
Wikipedia is the world’s fifth most popular website and a go-to source for facts online. Anyone can edit Wikipedia, but not everyone does. Studies show that fewer than 16% of Wikipedia contributors identify as female and 75% are under the age of 30; content is skewed by the lack of representation by women and important stories remain untold. We’re working to change that.
Since 2014, more than 10,000 people have participated in Art+Feminism’s annual worldwide edit-a-thon to close the gender gap, creating and improving more than 33,000 Wikipedia articles related to women and the arts. To learn more, visit artandfeminism.org.
