Artists at Work: Volume One

$20

East of Borneo’s Artists at Work interviews seek to let L.A. artists speak for themselves. Artists at Work: Volume One collects ten of these artist interviews, including in-depth conversations with Fiona Connor, Susan Silton, Cauleen Smith, Tarrah Krajnak, Shevaun Wright, Candice Lin, Sula Bermúdez-Silverman, Julia Haft-Candell, Pippa Garner, and Shirley Tse.

Together they speak across the city’s past and present creative cultures. They speak of the questions they are motivated to confront in their work on a daily basis, and of their habits, rituals, and inspirations. They speak of the earth, bodies, gender hacking, rising rent, cats, and flesh-eating beetles. They consider notions of “knowledge,” “legacy,” and “success” in the art world—and new worlds. They speak of their experiences actually being artists in L.A.

With interviews by Thomas Lawson, Susanna Newbury, Travis Diehl, Kavior Moon, Kimberli Meyer, Sóla Saar Agustsson, Anna Katz, David Matorin, Silvi Naçi, and Vanessa Holyoak.
