Studio 246, Kunsterlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin, 1996

At some point in 1995 the Kunsterlhaus Bethanien in Berlin invited Sharon Lockhart to a one-year studio residency, to culminate in an exhibition of new work. After a couple of months Lockhart realized that she couldn’t afford a whole year away from home, and arranged for a group of friends and acquaintances from Los Angeles to divide up the rest of her time, month by month. This brochure records the resulting twelve exhibits at Studio 246, with an essay by Timothy Martin providing a snapshot of new art from Los Angeles at a key moment in the mid-90s.
